Start or Stop a Non-Plug and Play Device Driver

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

This topic provides a procedure that you can use to start or stop the device drivers for devices that do not conform to the Plug and Play specification. For a Plug and Play device, see Enable or Disable a Plug and Play Device.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To start or stop a device driver for a non-Plug and Play device

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Click the View menu, and then click Show hidden devices.

  3. In the list of devices, double-click Non-Plug and Play Drivers, right-click the device you want, and then click Properties.

  4. On the Driver tab, click Start or Stop, and then click OK.

Note

If the Start button on the Driver tab is unavailable, the driver is already loaded.
