Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) provides remote access to corporate resources from a diverse range of remote client endpoints and locations. By using Forefront UAG trunks, you can publish Web and non-Web applications, and provide full VPN access to internal networks. Remote endpoints access published resources via a Web portal. You can control and help secure endpoint access with a number of control mechanisms, including client authentication, application authorization, and endpoint health validation against access policies.

To ensure the availability and reliability of your Forefront UAG, you should actively monitor connectivity, system resources, logs, and important Forefront UAG services. Preventive maintenance helps you to identify potential errors before they can cause problems with your Forefront UAG deployment. Preventive maintenance combined with disaster recovery planning and regular backups also help to minimize problems if they occur.

About this guide

This guide is intended for the administrator who is responsible for day-to-day portal and application management, tweaking settings for performance, effective logging, and daily monitoring. This guide is also intended for monitoring operators, user support engineers, and helpdesk personnel, who regularly monitor system logs and events, in order to determine connectivity and configuration problems.

The Forefront UAG operations guide assumes that you have a working single Forefront UAG server deployment, or a multiple Forefront UAG server array already installed, configured, and running correctly in your organization.
