Telephony Server

Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2

The Telephony service implements Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) services to support programs that effectively work the same way over intranets, the Internet, and traditional public phone networks. This Help file provides information for configuring and managing telephony servers and clients.

You can use the Telephony Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to manage the telephony servers on your network.

A telephony server manages telecommunications equipment, such as a Private Branch Exchange (PBX), through the use of TAPI-compatible software provided by the equipment vendor. TAPI provides a standard infrastructure for client computers to communicate with the telecom equipment across the network.
