This guide provides information and step-by-step procedures for upgrading your Windows® HPC Server 2008 cluster to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2. It also provides information about installing service packs for HPC Pack 2008 R2 on a cluster that has already been upgraded to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2.

Caution
Before upgrading to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2, you should back up any valued data on the head node and on the cluster nodes.
Important
  • The upgrade procedures in this document must be used to perform an in-place upgrade of a Windows HPC Server 2008 head node to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2. They are not intended for performing a migration of the head node to a different computer.

  • The upgrade procedures in this document are not intended for a head node that is configured in a failover cluster.
