Steps for Administering an RODC

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

As stated, an important benefit of an RODC is that it requires less administration than a writable domain controller. It requires only inbound replication, and no erroneous information can be written to the Active Directory database.

However, the Password Replication Policy for an RODC presents minor administrative requirements. An RODC also requires maintenance activities that are similar to those of a writable domain controller. These include routine backups of system state data and the application of software updates.

This section contains information and steps pertaining to the following:

  • The Password Replication Policy

  • Password Replication Policy Administration

  • Administrator Role Separation
