MaxGPOScriptWait

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Data type

Range

Default value

REG_DWORD

0 | 1–32000 seconds

600 (10  minutes )

Description

Determines how long the system waits for scripts applied by Group Policy to run.

The value of this entry limits the combined time for all logon, startup, and shutdown scripts applied by Group Policy to finish running.

Value

Meaning

0x0

The system waits until all scripts have finish running, no matter how long they take.

0x1–32,000

Specifies how long the system waits for scripts to finish running. If the scripts have not finished running when the specified time expires, the system stops processing the scripts and records an error event.

This interval is particularly important when other system tasks must wait while the scripts finish. By default, each startup script must finish before the next one runs.

An excessively long interval can delay the system and inconvenience users. However, if the interval is too short, prerequisite tasks might not be done, and the system can appear to be ready prematurely.

Note Image Note

A Group Policy included with Windows 2000 can supercede this entry. When the Maximum wait time for Group Policy scripts policy is enabled, the system ignores this entry. The policy setting is stored in the value of the MaxGPOScriptWait entry in the Policies subkey. If this feature does not operate as expected, check to see whether a policy is in effect.
