Back Up and Restore a Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Cluster

Updated: July 20, 2011

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2

This topic includes guidelines for backing up the head node and the HPC databases in a Windows® HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster. Backups enable you to restore your system in the case of file corruption, data loss, or other unexpected system failures. You can also use system backups to perform a bare metal recovery of your head node. This topic also describes the HPC Job Scheduler Service restore mode, and the additional steps that you must perform before and after restoring the databases to help to bring the cluster to a consistent state.

noteNote
To enhance the availability of cluster services and data for unscheduled and scheduled outages, you can also configure the head node in the context of a failover cluster. For more information, see Configuring Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 for High Availability of the Head Node.
