This topic explains how to create and/or move Exchange Virtual Server accounts for the purposes of hardening an Exchange Cluster.

Before You Begin

It is highly recommended that you read Running Exchange Server 2003 Clusters in a Security-Hardened Environment before implementing this procedure.

Procedure

To create and/or move Exchange Virtual Server computer accounts

  1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, connect to a domain controller that resides in the same Active Directory site as the Exchange clusters that you will be updating. Right-click Active Directory Users and Computers <domain_name>, click Connect to Domain Controller, type the name of the appropriate domain controller, and then click OK.

  2. If EVS computer objects already exist in your organization, move them into the Exchange Virtual Servers OU.

    Note

To move computer objects in the Active Directory Computers and Users MMC snap-in, select the computer object and drag it into the target OU.

  3. If the EVS computer objects have not yet been created, right-click the Exchange Virtual Servers OU, point to New, and then click Computer.

  4. In New Object - Computer, in the Computer name box, type the name of the Network Name cluster resource as specified in Cluster Administrator, and then click Next. Perform the remaining steps of the New Computer Account wizard.
