Description

The Modem subkey stores configuration information for the modem specified by DeviceId in the registry path. The Fax Service creates the entries in this subkey during the first fax transmission that it makes with the specified device.

The Fax Service creates most of the entries in this subkey by copying the values of identically named entries in the part of the registry that stores settings for Unimodem 5. Unimodem 5 acquires some of these settings from the setup information (.inf) file for the modem when Windows installs the modem driver.

Note

  • Unimodem 5 is a Telephony Service Provider that provides an abstraction for modem devices such that applications can operate transparently across a wide variety of types and makes of modems. In addition, modem installation is greatly simplified since Unimodem 5 is aware of the operating characteristics of these modems, and their drivers are already available in the operating system.
