Description

Specifies whether NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) searches the Lmhosts file for names that it has not been able to resolve with name queries to a WINS server and broadcast name queries to the network. Though use of the Lmhosts file is enabled by default, there is no default Lmhosts file. When the value of this entry isĀ 1 and there is no Lmhosts file, no action takes place.

NetBT searches the Lmhosts file, if it exists, for names that cannot be resolved by WINS or broadcast name queries.

Change Method

To change the value of this entry, use Network Connections in Control Panel. Right-click Local Area Connection (or the name of another connection, if appropriate), click Properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , and then click the Properties button. On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties page, click the Advanced button, and click the WINS tab. This entry is associated with Enable LMHOSTS lookup, which you can check to enable and clear to disable.

Activation Method

Changes made to this entry through the Properties page for the interface take effect immediately.
