Server performance and scalability are important factors to consider when planning your initial deployment and maintaining your existing Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) infrastructure.

Because FEP is built on Configuration Manager infrastructure, the performance of your Configuration Manager deployment is vital to the performance of your FEP deployment. About FEP Performance Information

FEP is designed to work in your existing Configuration Manager infrastructure without major hardware changes. Ensure that your Configuration Manager infrastructure is sized appropriately for the number of client computers that you must support. The values and recommendations contained in this performance guide were generated by using the following parameters:

300,000 client computers in a hierarchical Configuration Manager deployment with a single central site, three subsites, and 12 management points.

For the 300,000 client computers, the server hosting the FEP reporting database has the following characteristics:

  • Xeon with 24 cores (4 processors, 6 cores each) at 2.4 GHz

  • 32 GB RAM

  • Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Separate 15,000 RPM RAID10 LUNs for each log file and data file

  • RAID0 for TempDB, sized at 500 GB

  • RAID10 LUN for the OLAP cube data files

For 50,000 client computers, the server hosting the FEP reporting database has the following characteristics:

  • Xeon with 8 cores (2 processors, 4 cores each) at 3.16 GHz

  • 32 GB RAM

  • Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Separate 15,000 RPM RAID10 LUNs for each log file and data file

  • RAID0 for TempDB, sized at 500 GB

  • RAID10 LUN for the OLAP cube data files
