Customizing W3C Extended Logging

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1

If you selected the W3C Extended log file format for a Web or FTP site, you can customize the logged data. You can also limit unnecessary data and reduce the size of the log file by omitting unneeded fields.

Important

You must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer to perform the following procedure or procedures. As a security best practice, log on to your computer by using an account that is not in the Administrators group, and then use the runas command to run IIS Manager as an administrator. At a command prompt, type runas /user:Administrative_AccountName "mmc %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc".

Procedures

To customize W3C Extended logging

  1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, expand the Web or FTP Sites folder, right-click the Web or FTP site, and click Properties.

  2. On the Web Site or FTP Site tab, select the Enable logging check box (if it is not already selected).

  3. In the Active log format list box, click W3C Extended Log File Format.

  4. Click Properties.

  5. On the Advanced tab, select the properties you want to log.

  6. Click OK.
