Using the Global Administration Page

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

From the Global Administration page of the administration Web site, you can provision and unprovision an RMS server and change the RMS service account.

To gain access to this Web page from the server that you want to administer, use the following steps:

To gain access to the Global Administration page

  1. Log on to RMS server as local administrator

  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Windows RMS, and then click Windows RMS Administration.

Note

It is not possible to access the Global Administration page from a browser that is on a remote computer.

If you have not yet provisioned the server from which you are accessing the Global Administration page, the following options are displayed for each Web site that is running on the server:

  • Provision RMS on this Web site. Click this link if this is the first server that you want to provision in this cluster. This starts the provisioning process where RMS resources, such as virtual directories, are installed. In addition, the databases are installed on the database server. For more information, see “To Provision the First Server in the Root Cluster” later in this subject.

  • Add RMS to a cluster. Click this link if you want to provision the server and add it to an existing cluster. You can join a server to either the root cluster or a licensing-only cluster. RMS resources, such as virtual directories, are installed. However, the databases are not created because this server will use the cluster databases. For more information, see “To Add a Server to a Cluster” later in this subject.

If you access the Global Administration page from a server that has already been provisioned, the following options are displayed:

  • Administer RMS on this Web site. Click this link to display the Cluster Administration page. For more information, see “Using the Administration Home Page” later in this subject.

  • Change RMS service account. Click this link to specify a different RMS service account under which RMS is to run. For more information, see “Changing the RMS Service Account” later in this subject.

  • Remove RMS from this Web site. Click this link to unprovision RMS. When you unprovision RMS, RMS virtual directories and applications are removed from this server, but RMS is not uninstalled. For more information, see “To Uninstall RMS” later in this subject.

Note

The RMS Administration Web site uses pop-up windows for configuration of some features. If you are using a pop-up blocker with your Web browser, you should configure your browser settings to allow pop-ups from the RMS Administration Web site.
