E-mail antivirus template settings were not applied

Problem   Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server is not configured successfully.

Features affected   The filter list and other settings for Windows SBS 2008 are not applied.

Solution   You must manually restore the template settings for Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server

Prerequisites Ensure that the following prerequisites are completed:

  1. Exchange Server 2007 is installed. For instructions about how to install Exchange Server 2007, see “Exchange Server 2007 cannot be installed” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=119471).

  2. Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server is installed. For instructions about how to install Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server, see “Virus protection for e-mail cannot be installed” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=141983).

  3. The software update for Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server is applied. For instructions about how to apply it, see “The software update for virus protection for e-mail was not applied” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=120548).

To manually restore the template settings for Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server

  1. Click Start, and then, in Search, type cmd. From the quick launch pad, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.

  2. Change the directory to c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server

  3. Type the following, and then press ENTER: FSCStarter.exe tlscfn C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Data\SBSForefrontTemplate.fdb

  4. Verify that the settings are applied, as follows:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Forefront Server Security, right-click Forefront Server Security Administration, and then click Run as administrator.

    2. In Connect to Server, click <ServerName>, and then click OK.

    3. On the Settings menu, click Templates. In the Name column, ensure that Scan Jobs and Default Templates are associated with the SBS Filter Set.
