Planning environment-specific security includes the following tasks:

Use the appropriate tasks based on your target security environment:

  • Internal team or department

  • Internal IT-hosted

  • External secure collaboration

  • External anonymous access

For the internal team or department environment, these recommendations are intended to be used instead of the recommendations provided in Overview: Plan server farm security (Office SharePoint Server). This approach relies on the security implemented in an organization's overall network environment and greatly simplifies the amount of security configuration required for an individual team or department.

For the other three environments, the recommendations provided represent additional guidance that is intended to be used together with the recommendations provided in Overview: Plan server farm security (Office SharePoint Server).
