Alternatives to rolling upgrades

Certain situations do not allow you to perform a standard rolling upgrade. In these cases, you must perform alternative procedures. These situations are:

  • Upgrading from Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition. For more information, see Upgrade a Cluster from Windows NT 4.0.

  • Upgrading a node that contains resources that are not supported during rolling upgrades. To determine whether your resources are supported during rolling upgrades, see Resource behavior during rolling upgrades. Also be sure to read Relnotes.htm in the \Docs folder of the operating system setup CD, as well as the product documentation that comes with the application or resource. If you have a resource that is not fully supported during rolling upgrades and is not described by a technology specific procedure, such as Internet Information Server (IIS), see Perform a last node rolling upgrade from Windows 2000.
