This subject is not intended to be a comprehensive list of solutions for all issues, but it provides information that you can use to troubleshoot problems that you may encounter when you deploy and operate RMS and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ).

Other resources that may be helpful to you during your investigation are:

  • Windows Rights Management Services Technology Center. As the starting point for all information related to Windows Rights Management Services, this page contains links to white papers, case studies, technical articles and tools and can be found at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=26724).

  • Administration Toolkit for Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) 1.0. These tools enable an administrator to quickly and easily modify RMS configuration databases and get information about the overall system configuration. Several test deployments have shown that these tools can help system administrators who are trying to verify that the RMS server is working as intended and in troubleshooting deployment issues. The toolkit can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=33841).

Note

Although great care is taken to ensure that the tools operate correctly, they are not part of Windows RMS and are not supported by Microsoft. For this reason, Microsoft Product Support Services is unable to answer questions about this toolkit. The Administration Toolkit for Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) 1.0 is only available in English.

  • Windows RMS Newsgroup. Newsgroups are a great place to ask questions of other RMS users and find general information about other user’s experiences with RMS. You can subscribe to the RMS newsgroup from the Microsoft Discussions Groups https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=68636.

  • Product Support Services. If you are having a problem, check the product support Web site on Microsoft.com first to see if your issue has been identified in the Frequently Asked Questions or by a KB article. If not, you can contact Product Support Services to get help with your issue. To start, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=33883).
