Change Power Options for a Device

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

This topic provides a procedure you can use to configure how your device interacts with Windows power options. This includes settings that control how the device consumes power under different conditions, and how Windows responds to events from the device when the computer is operating in various power-saving states.

You can use the power options to configure a device to "wake up" from a low-power state for an event. One example of the effect of doing so is that an incoming modem call will alert the system to service the call even if the system is in hibernation. You can also specify whether the operating system should turn off a particular device if it is not occupied, servicing a call for example.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To change the power options for a device

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Double-click the type of device for which you want to change power options.

  3. Right-click the device you want, and then click Properties.

  4. On the Power Management tab, change the settings you want.

Note

The Power Management tab appears only for device drivers that support power option standards.
