Checklist: Enable the Distributed Transactions Service to Provide Transaction Support Across the Network

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012

An application that uses transactions can provide robust and reliable services despite system, process, or communication failures. Use of transactions guarantees that application and data states stay consistent and that all updates on the data are durable. These transaction semantics are preserved regardless of whether the data is local to the application or distributed across the network.

To allow transaction support for applications and resources across the network, enable the Distributed Transactions service in the Application Server role.
