During Windows SBS 2008 installation, you can choose to install a trial version of Windows Live OneCare for Server. The trial version is a complete, fully functional version of OneCare with a 120-day trial period that begins after you complete the OneCare installation wizard and signed in with a Windows Live ID.

Note

If you purchased Windows SBS 2008 from an OEM who customized the installation, OneCare may already be installed, or it may not be available for installation. Contact your OEM for more information.

If you did not choose to install OneCare during Windows SBS 2008 installation, you can install it later. For information about installing OneCare, see “Reinstall Windows Live OneCare for Server on your server” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/FWLink/?LinkID=131049).

Important

You can install OneCare only if the language that you are installing is supported for the full OneCare product. For information about which languages are supported, see “Frequently asked questions about Windows Live OneCare” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=121101).

OneCare helps protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware, and it provides other security and performance optimization services for your server.

To make OneCare fully functional, after installation you must update OneCare to get the most current virus and malware definitions.

To update OneCare

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • On the Home tab, click Help protect your server with Windows Live OneCare for Server in the Task Pad.

    • On the Security tab, click Open Windows Live OneCare for Server in the Tasks pane.

  3. Follow the instructions in the Windows Live OneCare dialog box.

  4. When OneCare finishes updating, you need to provide an ID for OneCare. On the Security tab, click Open Windows Live OneCare for Server, and then follow the instructions in the Windows Live OneCare dialog box.
