Uninstalling a Security Component

Updated: July 22, 2009

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard

The Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange (FSE) security component can be uninstalled and no longer be registered and visible as a security component in the Windows SBS Console. If a third party malware and spam protection software is installed and can register itself with Windows SBS 2008, it is listed as a security component in the Windows SBS Console.

You can uninstall FSE in Programs and Features in Control Panel. Uninstalling FSE results in the following:

  • Spam protection for e-mail and Virus protection for e-mail remain on the Security tab, but there are no associated data or tasks.

  • FSE is removed from the Security assessment in the Network Essentials Summary on the Home page, and from all reports.

  • Exchange Server realtime anti-spam signature recovery is suspended.
