Windows Rights Management Client Installation

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

The AD RMS Client 1.0 is included with the Windows Vista and the Windows Server 2008 operating systems. If you are using Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 as your client operating system, a compatible version of the AD RMS client is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center.

This client can be installed in the x86 versions of Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (additional downloads for x64 and Itanium versions of the client are available). The client, called the Windows Rights Management Services with Service Pack 2 client, supports both Windows RMS and Active Directory Rights Management Services server installations.

This client supports both Windows RMS and AD RMS. The client can be installed by just running the executable file. Installing the AD RMS client does require administrative privileges on the computer that the client is being installed on.

In scenarios where more than a few computers need to have the RMS client installed, using an appropriate deployment method is recommended. The following sections will look at a few possible ways of accomplishing this.
