Process %1 (PID=%2). The configuration domain controller specified in a call to SetConfigDCName (%3) was not found in the Sites container in the Active Directory. Exchange Active Directory Provider will select the configuration domain controller from the list of available domain controllers.

Explanation

This Warning event indicates that the Active Directory topology service didn't find the mentioned domain controller in the Sites container in Active Directory. This situation can occur for the following reasons:

  • The Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service can't locate the domain that contains the DNS server.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service can't find the DNS name.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology can't find a writable Naming Context in Active Directory.

If other Exchange services start and run, this warning can be ignored. However, it's recommended that this warning be fixed by following the steps listed in the User Action section.

User Action

To resolve this warning, do one or more of the following:

  • Make sure that domain controller mentioned in the event description is correctly registered on the DNS server. For more information, see the following topics:
  • In Active Directory Sites and Services, make sure that the domain controller mentioned in the event description is listed under the Sites container.
  • Review the Application log and System log on the domain controller mentioned in the event description for any corresponding Warning or Error events.
