Message Text

Microsoft Exchange System Attendant has detected that the local computer '%1' is not a member of group '%2'. System Attendant is going to add the local computer into the group. %n%nThe current members of the group are '%3'.

Explanation

This Warning event indicates that the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service could not find the Exchange server in the Exchange Servers security group. Other symptoms you may experience when this event occurs are the presence of event ID 9187, and the inability to start the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service and any services that depend on it.

This event may be caused if the distinguished name of the Exchange server has been changed. When the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant starts, it caches the distinguished name of the local computer. If the distinguished name of the Exchange server is changed, for example by moving it from one organizational unit to another organizational unit, the new distinguished name will be different from the distinguished name that is in the cache. This will cause the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant to log event ID 9186 and 9187 messages.

User Action

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:

  • If your Exchange server is listed in the Exchange Servers security group, restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant to refresh the cached value.
  • If your Exchange server is not listed in the Exchange Servers security group, follow these steps:
    1. Remove the Exchange server account from the Exchange Servers group.
    2. Add the Exchange server account back to the Exchange Servers group.
    3. Restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service.
  • If you are having difficulty resolving the issue, contact Microsoft Product Support. For information about contacting support, visit the Contact Us page of the Microsoft Help and Support Web site.
