Wizard-based Installation

This section provides information about how to use the Device Manager 2011 Setup Wizard to install or upgrade Device Manager 2011 server on a Configuration Manager central or primary site server.

Device Manager 2011 includes the server installer and the server upgrade installer that provide the Device Manager 2011 Setup Wizard.

The following table shows the installer and upgrade installer file names for each supported language.

With Device Manager 2011, you can install:

  • All server components on a computer.

  • Only the Device Manager 2011 Server Core Components component on a computer in a Configuration Manager topology.

    Important

    You must install Server Core Components on a central or primary site server that has the Systems Management Server (SMS) Provider role in Configuration Manager.

  • Only the Configuration Manager Console Add-in component on a computer in a Configuration Manager topology.

  • The Device Imaging service component on a computer with the Device Manager 2011 Server Core Components installed.

During an installation or upgrade of Device Manager 2011 server, you have the option to turn off device collections. By turning off device collections, you stop Device Manager 2011 from automatically creating device collections. If you have customized your collections, turning off device collections allows you to retain your customized collections.

Important

You must make this selection for each site server on which you install or upgrade Device Manager 2011 server.
