Software Requirements per Server Role

This section provides server-specific software requirements for the following server roles in a Commerce Server 2009 R2 deployment:

  • Commerce Presentation or Application

  • Database Server

  • Business Tools Client

  • Desktop Business Tools Server

  • Data Warehouse and Analysis Server

  • Staging Server

  • Supported Virtual Servers

Commerce Presentation or Application Server

Web presentation servers support user access to Commerce Server 2009 R2 Web sites. The application server hosts the Commerce Foundation in a three-tier commerce deployment. Both require the following software products:

Database Server

The computer that is running SQL Server and hosting Commerce Server 2009 R2 databases uses the following software products:

  • One of the server operating system software listed in Summary of Software Requirements

  • One of the SQL Server database software listed in Summary of Software Requirements

Business Tools Client

The business users in an organization use a client computer to access the business management applications such as the Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 R2 Desktop Business Tools (installable as a component of Commerce Server 2009 R2) and the Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 R2 Web Business Tools (accessible on the internal zone of the Solution Storefront).

For computer hosting the Desktop Business Tools, the following software products are required:

Desktop Business Tools Server

The business management server runs the Commerce Core Web Services accessed by the Desktop Business Tools. This server uses the following software products:

  • One of the server operating system software listed in Summary of Software Requirements

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0

  • .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=135626)

  • SSL certificate

Data Warehouse and Analysis Server

The Data Warehouse and analysis server imports, transforms, and stores Web site data. You use the data that is stored in the Data Warehouse to analyze user activity on your Web site. This server uses the following software products:

The versions of SQL Server components listed above are compatible with SQL Server 2008 SP2. Install the 64-bit version of each component, except for the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components, which is only available as a 32-bit package.

Staging Server

The staging server runs the Commerce Server Staging (CSS) service. The staging server uses the following software products:

Supported Virtual Servers

Commerce Server 2009 R2 supports the following virtual servers:

  • Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 or Windows Server 2008 x64
