Data Migration for Commerce Server 2000/2002

This section provides information about the data migration for each global resource and site resource when you migrate a site to Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 R2 using the Commerce Server Upgrade Wizard. The Commerce Server Upgrade Wizard is a tool that automates the migration of Commerce Server global resources, site resources, and site data to Commerce Server 2009 R2.

You must have read and write permissions for all databases including the Commerce Server Administration database (by default named MSCS_Admin) to run the Upgrade Wizard.

The Upgrade Wizard upgrades site resources such as Catalogs, Campaigns, and Marketing, and reviews catalog data and checks for unauthorized conditions. The Upgrade Wizard also updates the version resource information for resources that have not changed. The Upgrade Wizard updates resource version information, Commerce Server business data, and site resource data to work with the schema changes that have been made to Commerce Server 2009 R2. The Upgrade Wizard ignores any custom resources. If you wish, the Commerce Server Upgrade Wizard can delete resources that are no longer supported in Commerce Server 2009 R2, such as Predictor and Business Desk Security.

The Upgrade Wizard does not update site code.

The Upgrade Wizard does not delete any of the remaining SQL Server databases and tables after you upgrade or delete site resources. It is the developer's responsibility to remove leftover databases and tables. See Post Migration Data Cleanup for instructions on how to remove leftover databases and tables.
