The Set-MsolGroup cmdlet is used to update the properties of a security group.

Syntax

Set-MsolGroup [-Description <string>] [-DisplayName <string>] [-ManagedBy <string>] [-ObjectId <Guid>] [-TenantId <Guid>] [<CommonParameters>]

Parameters

    -Description <string>
        The description of the group.
        
        Required?                    false

        Accept wildcard characters?  false
        
    -DisplayName <string>
        The display name of the group.
        
        Required?                    false

    -ManagedBy <string>
        The owner of the group.

    -ObjectId <Guid>
        The unique ID of the group to update.

    -TenantId <Guid>
        The unique ID of the tenant to perform the operation on. If this is 
        not provided then the value will default to the tenant of the current 
        user. This parameter is only applicable to partner users.

    <CommonParameters>
        This cmdlet supports the common parameters: Verbose, Debug,
        ErrorAction, ErrorVariable, WarningAction, WarningVariable,

        "get-help about_commonparameters".

Examples

The following command first locates the group with the name Marketing and sets that group a variable $MktGrp. The next command updates the description for the Marketing group to read "Marketing executives."

$MktGrp = Get-MsolGroup -searchstring Marketing

Set-MsolGroup -ObjectId $MktGrp.ObjectId -Description "Marketing executives"
