Pin things to start

You can pin just about anything you want to Start—apps, albums, map locations, favorite websites, Microsoft OneNote notes, contacts, and a lot more. When you pin a contact to Start, you'll get all of that person's feed updates right from their Tile, and you can call them with just two taps.

To pin a contact or Group

  1. On StartPhone hardware start button, tap PeopleHandheld8 people tile icon, and then flick to All.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Tap and hold the contact or Group you want to pin, and then tap Pin to start.

    • Tap the contact or Group you want to pin, and then tap PinHandheld8 basic icon pin.

To pin an app

  • In the App list, tap and hold the app you want to pin, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin a game

  1. In the App list, tap GamesHandheld8 start games icon.

  2. Tap and hold the game you want to pin, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin a website

  1. In Internet ExplorerHandheld8 start icon IE, open the website you want to pin.

  2. Tap MoreHandheld8 more ellipses, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin a map location

  1. In the App list, tap MapsHandheld8 maps icon.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Tap SearchHandheld8 hardware search icon button, type the location you want to find, tap the flag that identifies the location, and then tap PinHandheld8 basic icon pin.

    • Tap MoreHandheld8 more ellipses, tap Favorite places, tap a location you've saved to your favorites, and then tap PinHandheld8 basic icon pin.

To pin an album, playlist, artist, or genre

  1. In the App list, tap Music + VideosHandheld8 start music videos icon.

  2. Under Collection, tap Music.

  3. Flick to Artists, Albums, Playlists, or Genres.

  4. Tap and hold the artist, album, playlist, or genre, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin your Favorites photo album

  1. On StartPhone hardware start button, tap PhotosHandheld8 start icon pictures photos.

  2. Flick to Favorites, tap MoreHandheld8 more ellipses, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin any other photo album

  1. On StartPhone hardware start button, tap PhotosHandheld8 start icon pictures photos > Albums.

  2. Tap and hold the album you want to pin, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin an Office document or place

  1. In the App list, tap OfficeHandheld8 start icon office.

  2. Tap and hold a document or place, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin a OneNote note

  1. In the App list, tap OneNoteHandheld8 start icon onenote.

  2. Tap and hold the album you want to pin, and then tap Pin to start.

To pin a folder from an email inbox

  1. Open the account that has the folder you want to pin.

  2. Tap MoreHandheld8 more ellipses > Folders.

  3. Tap Show all folders, tap and hold a folder, and then tap Pin to start.

Tip

  • If you'd like to move a Tile somewhere else on Start, tap and hold the Tile, and then move it wherever you'd like.

  • To remove a Tile, tap and hold it, and then tap UnpinHandheld8 basic icon unpin.

  • To resize a Tile, tap and hold it, and then tap ResizeHandheld8 start icon resize arrow until the Tile changes to the size you want.
