Direct Mailer: Jobs fail with no error message

If SQL Server Agent is stopped when a scheduled Direct Mailer job is to run, the job will not run. You do not receive any indication that the job had failed to start, and no error condition is logged.

Solution

To start a job that did not run, you must start the job manually from the SQL Server Agent control in SQL Enterprise Manager.

To start a direct mail job manually

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (depending on your installed database), and then click Enterprise Manager.

  2. Expand the nodes to the following path: \Microsoft SQL Servers\SQL Server Group\<SQL Server Name>\Management\SQL Server Agent\Jobs.

  3. Click on Jobs. The Direct Mailer jobs appear in the right pane of the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
