International Campaigns

Commerce Server 2002 provides enhanced support for delivering campaign information that is appropriate to a particular locale. This enhanced support is in the areas of:

  • Discounts
  • Advertising content

The following fictional business scenario provides some context for understanding how these two areas of the Commerce Server Targeting System can be applied to display culturally appropriate campaign information. The scenario is an extension of the scenario described in Business Scenarios for Enabling International Transactions.

Business Scenario for Enabling International Campaigns

In this fictional scenario, the Contoso retail site displays locale-specific discounts and advertising content. The Contoso content development team creates content that is appropriate for five locales (English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese). This content is named using a convention that identifies the target cultural group. For example, an advertisement for golf shoes that should displayed for a French user might be named golf_FR.

Contoso uses page groups to determine which advertisements to display on a given page, and target groups to determine which locale-specific discount messages and advertisements to display to a specific group of users. Contoso developed a target expression based on the preferred language and currency profile properties as the basis for these target groups. The developers created separate campaigns to support each required language.
