Setting Up Your Server Platforms

The installation described in this topic is a four-computer configuration containing a pair of Web servers using Network Load Balancing (NLB) and a pair of SQL Server cluster servers. For more information about this configuration, seeĀ Small Site Configuration.

Follow these steps to set up servers for a Commerce Server 2000 Web site:

  • Review the computer configuration you have planned.

  • Incorporate any configuration changes discovered through testing.

  • Create a standard configuration for each computer role. In a small configuration, roles include Web servers and database servers.

  • Install Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server on all computers in your test environment, configuring them according to your configuration documentation with the appropriate domain membership, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Domain Name System (DNS) client configuration, services, and Microsoft SQL Server.

Alternatively, you can create one server image for each role and use Microsoft Application Center 2000 to replicate the image to other servers in that role, if your server hardware meets the requirements for imaging. For more information, see the Microsoft Application Center 2000 documentation.
