Deploying the Predictor Resource

Building analysis models is a CPU-intensive process. You can run the Predictor resource on the computer where your Commerce Server Data Warehouse is stored, or you can deploy it to a separate host. If you run the Predictor resource on the same computer as your Data Warehouse, model build time will be faster because the data does not need to be transmitted over a network; however, this could reduce Data Warehouse performance. If you build your analysis models when there is less activity on your Data Warehouse, reduced performance on the Data Warehouse should not become an issue.

Determining whether or not to deploy the Predictor resource on a separate computer (one that does not contain your Data Warehouse) depends on the size and number of analysis models you want to build. If you are building small models that take only a minute or two to build, it is advisable to deploy the Predictor resource on the same computer as your Data Warehouse. If you are building very large analysis models, for example, you have a catalog with 1,000,000 products and you sell all of them regularly, it is advisable to deploy the Predictor resource to a dedicated host.

  • Running your online analytical processing (OLAP) server, the Data Warehouse, and the Predictor resource on the same computer can cause large analysis reports to run slowly.
