Targeting a Discount to Page Groups and Target Groups

You can specify if a discount is to appear on all pages of the site or if it is to appear only on assigned page groups. You use page groups to specify on which Web pages a discount will appear. For example, if your Web site is an online newspaper, you can assign a discount for golf clubs to only run on the Sports page.

You can display your discounts on all of your page groups, or you can select from the page groups that have been created in the Page Groups section in the Reference Tables module. For information about creating page groups, see Adding Page Groups.

  • Before you can target an ad to a page group, your site developer must add the necessary code to enable the ad to display on the page. For information about enabling ads to display on a page, see the Ad Sitelet sample in the Commerce Server 2002 Software Development Kit.

You can also specify the target groups to which the discount should be displayed. Target groups are a collection of two or more expressions used to target a specific group of users. You can use target groups to include specified users in a group, or to exclude specified users from a group. For information about creating target groups, see Creating a Target Group.

  • For examples that show how to set up different types of discount conditions, awards, and eligibility requirements, see Discount Examples. The examples display the Business Desk Discount Definition screen for each discount, and the discount results for each user basket.
  • Before you can save the discount, you must set up the discount display.
  • Any changes made to your discount must be published into production before they will appear on the Web site. For information about publishing changes to your Web site, see Publishing Campaign Changes on Your Web Site.
