Adding a Web Server to an Application
When you add a Web server to an application, you are adding the .asp, .htm, .gif, and other files for the application to the Web server computer. The Web server computer must already have Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 and Commerce Server installed on it.
To add a Web server to an application, you can use Commerce Server Site Packager. After you add a Web server to an application, the Commerce Web server object appears under the application node in Commerce Server Manager. The Web server object contains the properties needed by the Data Warehouse in order to import log files: server name, Internet Protocol (IP) address, log file path, and log file period. These properties are automatically populated from IIS when you add a Commerce Web server object to an application.
You can also add a new Web server to an application without using Site Packager. Instead you can use Application Center Server to deploy the Commerce Server files to the Web server, or you can manually copy Commerce Server files to the Web server. Make sure you have permissions on the computer you are unpacking onto.
Before performing this procedure, you must create a package file that contains the ASP files for the application, or use one of the Solution Sites. For instructions about creating a package file, see Using Site Packager.
To add a Web server to an application
On the Web server computer that you want to add to the application, expand Commerce Server Manager, expand Commerce Sites, and then expand the site you want to administer.
Expand Applications, click the name of the application to which you want to add the Web server, and then right-click the application. Point to New, and then click Add Web server.
The Add Web Server From dialog box appears containing a list of Commerce Server Site Packager files (that is, files with a .pup extension).
In the Add Web Server From dialog box, navigate to the folder that contains the file you want to unpack, select the file, and then click Open.
Site Packager is started.
In the Select IIS Web Sites and Virtual Directories dialog box, verify that the IIS application paths and virtual directories are correct, and then click Next.
Site Packager adds the files to the Web server, and then adds the Commerce Web server object to the selected application. When you open Commerce Server Manager, the Commerce Web server object appears under the application.
In the Unpacking is complete dialog box, review the list of SQL databases and IIS applications that were created. To review the list of events in the Pup.log file, click View Log File.
To close Site Packager, click Finish.
