Overview of a Secure Data Warehouse Deployment

The following figure shows the recommended configuration for deploying the Data Warehouse in a secure production environment.

In this figure, the Data Warehouse is on a different server than the Commerce Server runtime databases for performance purposes, not for security.

It is imperative that the Data Warehouse is deployed behind a firewall. Before you import the Web server log files, copy them to a server behind the firewall. For information about using Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server to create a firewall, see Deploying a Secure Site.

For the connections to the Data Warehouse SQL Server database and the Analysis Services (OLAP) database, use Windows Authentication. Use Basic Authentication for Business Desk users.

If you have already installed Commerce Server using SQL Server Authentication, you can change the Data Warehouse connection strings to use Windows Integrated Security. For instructions, see Configuring Data Warehouse Connection Strings.
