Setup fails when installing on a root instance of SQL

If you try to install Commerce Server 2002 to a root install of SQL Server that has an instance using the same port number, setup may fail.

Solution

On the computer running SQL Server, open Server Network Utility. (Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Server Network Utility.) Select each instance and change the port number so that each instance has a unique number. Restart all instances of SQL Server.
