Step 4: Create a Discount Campaign

After you create a campaign customer, you create campaign items for the customer. Each customer can have multiple campaigns.

In this step, you will do the following:

  1. Create a new discount campaign.
  2. Create discount properties.
  3. Create a discount definition for the following: female contractors who buy 10 units of switch (SKU # 6001) will receive one unit free.

To create a new discount campaign

  1. In Campaigns, click Campaign Manager.
  2. In the Campaign Manager screen, select Northwind Traders from the list, click Add on the toolbar, and then select New Campaign from the drop-down list.
  3. In the Campaign Manager - Northwind Traders - New (campaign) screen, in the CampaignProperties section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Campaign name Type Contractors Discount.
    Start date Select the default date.
    End date Select 12/31/2002 as the campaign end date from the drop-down calendar.

    Campaign dates are used as default dates for campaign item dates. However, campaign item dates override campaign dates. A campaign item date may be set to extend past the dates for the campaign.
    Status Select Active as the campaign status from the drop-down list.
    Comments Leave this field blank.
  4. To save the campaign information and return to the Campaign Manager screen, click Save and go back on the toolbar.

To create discount properties

  1. In Campaigns, click Campaign Manager.
  2. In the Campaign Manager screen, expand Northwind Traders customer. Select the Contractors Discount campaign, click Add on the toolbar, and then select New Discount from the drop-down list.
  3. In the Campaign Manager Northwind Traders - Contractors Discount - New (discount) screen, in the DiscountProperties section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Discount name Type Electrical Switch targeted at Females.
    Status Select Active as the discount campaign status from the drop-down list.
    Priority Select 10 as the priority of the discount from the drop-down list.

    The priority of the discount determines which discounts are applicable in the basket. For example, a discount with a priority of 10 is applied over a discount with a priority of 20.
    Comments Leave this field blank.
    Start date Select the default Start date (current date).
    End date Select 12/31/2002 as the discount end date from the drop-down calendar.

To create a discount promotion for female contractors

  1. In the Campaign Manager Northwind Traders - Contractors Discount - New (discount) screen, in the Discount Definition section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Buy: Buy Condition box
    • Type box. Select Quantity as the type of Buy condition from the drop-down list.
    • Value box. Enter 10 as the quantity amount.

    • Catalog expression. Click the ellipsis [...] button.

      In the Catalog Expressions dialog box, do the following:

      Name: Enter 6001.

      Description: Enter Switch.

      Click New to create a new target expression.

      • First box: Click Products, and then select SKU from the drop-down list.
      • Second box: Select is equal to from the drop-down list.
      • Third box: Type 6001.

      Click Apply, and then click Save.
    Get Get Condition box
    • Number. Type 1 as the number of units of the catalog item that the user is awarded when the rules of the discount are met.
    • Catalog expression. Select 6001 from the drop-down list.
    • Type. Select Percent (%) as the unit of measure for the discount award from the drop-down list.
    • Value. Type 100 as the percentage value of the discount award. This will offer selected users the eleventh item for free.

    Apply offer on Get product alone Clear this option.
    Apply offer on both Get and Buy Products Select this disjoint discount to have the buy condition reused as an award.
    Eligibility Requirements: Expression Available Select both Female and Contractor expressions for the discount from the list, and then click Add.
  2. In the Campaign Manager Northwind Traders - Contractors Discount - New (discount) screen, in the Discount Display Target section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Target groups: Available Select the Female Contractors page group, and then click Add.

    The page group is moved to the Assigned box. To remove a page group from the Assigned box, click Remove. This moves the page group to the Available box.
  3. In the Campaign Manager Northwind Traders - Contractors Discount - New (discount) screen, in the Discount Display section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Exposure limit Accept the default None value.
    Basket display Type Buy 10 switches get 1 free!.
    Content Size Accept the default Full Banner (468x60) value.
    Content Type Accept the default Image value.

    Type https://localhost/northwindtraders/image/campaign/ad_234x60_6001.gif.
    Click URL Type productdetail.aspx?ProductID=THREEWAYSWITCH(electrical).
    Alternative text Type 3-way Switch.
  4. To save the discount item, click Save on the toolbar.
  5. Click Preview to view the ad.
  6. To return to the Campaign Manager screen, click Back on the toolbar.
