Installing Windows Embedded POSReady 7

Any computer that meets or exceeds the hardware requirements can run POSReady 7. You can perform an interactive installation of POSReady 7 by completing these steps.

To install POSReady 7 from DVD-ROM

  1. Turn on the computer and insert the POSReady 7 product DVD into the computer’s DVD-ROM drive. When prompted, press a key to start the Setup program from the DVD.

  2. Choose your time format, currency format and keyboard layout, and then click Next.

    Note

English is the only language supported at installation. The final release will let you install additional languages after setup is finished.

  3. Click Install Now to start the installation. Setup will copy temporary files and then start.

  4. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms. Click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

  5. When prompted for an installation location, select the disk drive where you want to install the operating system, and then click Next.

    Tip

During installation, on the Where Do You Want To Install Windows page, you can access a command prompt by pressing Shift+F10. This puts you in the MinWinPC environment that is used by Setup to install the operating system. This gives you access to many of the same command-line tools that are available in a standard installation of POSReady 7.

Setup will then start the installation. During this process, Setup copies POSReady 7 to the disk you have selected. Next, Setup will install drivers for the detected hardware. This process requires several automatic restarts. When Setup finishes the installation, the operating system will be loaded and the system will be set up for first use.

  6. When prompted, enter a user name for the local administrator account, enter a name for the computer, and then click Next.

  7. Type and confirm a password, enter a password hint, and then click Next.

  8. When prompted, enter the POSReady 7 product key.

  9. Select a Windows Update option for the computer.

  10. Review the date and time settings, make changes as necessary, and then click Next.

  11. If a network card is detected during setup, networking components are installed automatically. POSReady systems are typically deployed in Work network environments. Based on the selection, POSReady 7 will configure networking for this location.

  12. Once Setup has finished, POSReady 7 will prepare and display the desktop.
