How to: Install Server Tools (SQL Server Compact)

This topic describes how to install the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Tools on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Tools installs the replication components on the computer that is running IIS. The replication components are required for connecting the SQL Server Compact 3.5 database to a SQL Server database. You can download SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Tools from Microsoft SQL Server Compact Download Site. For information about 64-bit replication components, see Managing 64-bit Database Applications.

This procedure assumes that you have installed SQL Server 2005 or a later version connectivity components, and that the computer is running IIS version 5.0, or a later version. If you are running IIS 7.0, you must install IIS 6 Management Compatibility pack.

Important

Using SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Tools with SQL Server 2008 is not supported in the production environment. SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1 Server Tools is supported.
