Selecting a Build Method

The Cube Wizard guides you through creating a cube. The pages of the wizard assemble the information required to define the data source view, fact and dimension tables, dimensions, and hierarchies for the cube. For more information about starting the Cube Wizard, see How to: Define a Cube.

To create a cube, open the Cube Wizard. On the Welcome page of the wizard, click Next. Then, on the Select Build Method page, choose whether to build the cube with a data source or without a data source. Choose to build the cube with a data source (from the bottom up) if you have the data source view required to build multidimensional objects and access the data. Choose to build the cube without a data source (from the top down) if you want to build your multidimensional objects first and afterward generate the schema required to support them. For more information about the details of each method, see Building a Cube Based on a Data Source View and Building a Cube Without a Data Source.
