How to: Change the Source of a Partition

You can modify or delete a partition by using the Partitions view in Cube Designer.

To modify a partition

  1. In Business Intelligence Development Studio, open the cube that contains the partition that you want to modify.

  2. On the Cube menu, point to View, and then click Partitions.

  3. In the table that contains information about the partition, make one or more of the following modifications:

    • Under Partition Name, click the current name, and then type a new name for the partition.
    • Under Source, click the browse (...) button to display the Partition source <partition name> dialog box. In the Partition Source group, select a new data source view from the Look in drop-down list, and then click OK. You can also enter a table name in the Filter table box and click Find Tables to find tables with similar names.
    • Under Aggregation, click the design aggregations button (...) to modify the aggregation.
    • Under Description, type a description of the partition.

To delete a partition

  1. Open the cube that contains the partition that you want to modify, and then click the Partitions tab.

  2. Expand the group that contains the partition that you want to remove, and in the partition table, click the row that contains information about the partition. Click Delete.

  3. Click OK.
