Security Configuration Wizard (SCW) is an attack surface reduction tool introduced with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. SCW uses a roles-based metaphor to solicit the functionality required for a server and disables the functionality that is not required. By automating this security best practice, SCW helps to create Windows environments that are less susceptible, on the whole, to security vulnerabilities that have been exploited.

For more information about the Security Configuration Wizard in Windows Server 2003, see the Security Configuration Wizard Documentation (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=162647).

The SCW manifest for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is included in the SharePoint Administration Toolkit. The manifest adds the SCW roles for Office SharePoint Server 2007 to Windows Server 2003.

Note

The SCW manifest for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 does not configure security settings related to the Single Sign-on service. If you want to secure the Single Sign-on service, you can manually edit the template using the SCW interface.

Important

The SCW manifest for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is not compatible with Windows Server 2008.

Register the Office SharePoint Server SCW manifest

  1. If the Security Configuration Wizard is not already enabled on the server, enable it in Windows Components by adding it from the Add or Remove Programs wizard.

  2. Open the command prompt window.

  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SPAdministrationToolkit\Security Configuration Wizard, or the location where you installed the SharePoint Administration Toolkit.

  4. Type scwcmd register /kbname:MOSS /kbfile:MOSS.xml and press ENTER.
