Colin Chaplin

Security and Infrastructure Consultant,Wordfish Ltd.

Blog IT and Security – hopefully I won’t have to kill you afterwards

Biography:

A died-in-the wool techie, I first cut my teeth during my degree by performing hardware upgrades and migrating to Windows 95 on several hundred machines; this eventually led to leading support of a very large Exchange installation.

I gradually moved into designing and architecting large-scale IT infrastructure solutions, which ultimately led to my work having a high degree of security focus.  A significant portion is advising on security for central government projects, from the £million to £multi-billion. However, the odd SoHo project keeps my feet on the ground.

I started Wordfish two years ago as a small consultancy business focussed on web technology, infrastructure and security design.

I am a GCHQ listed security advisor (CLAS), hold 3 MCSEs, TOGAF and a bundle of other vendor qualifications..

Top 3 Challenges:

* Driving the message that security can be a business enabler rather than a function that says "no"

* Engaging with programmes at the right time and not as an afterthought

* Time, money, people - the technology bit is easy!

If you were a superhero who would you be?

The guys in support; never appreciated, poorly paid and only noticed when things go wrong
