How to: Format a Border, Line, or Gridline (Report Builder 1.0)

Borders can be applied to text boxes or selected cells within a report layout. Gridlines can also be applied to the cells. When the report runs, horizontal and vertical lines are displayed between each cell. The Line tab is used to format gridlines in charts only. To format borders, lines, and gridlines, you can use the buttons on the Border toolbar or the Format dialog box.

To apply borders

  1. In Report Builder design mode, select the text box or cell(s) to which you want to add a border.

  2. On the Format menu, select Border.

    The Format dialog box opens with the Border tab selected.

  3. Click Outline.

  4. Click OK.

To remove borders

  1. In Report Builder design mode, select the text box or cell(s) to which you want to remove a border.

  2. On the Format menu, select Border.

    The Format dialog box opens with the Border tab selected.

  3. Click None.

  4. Click OK.

To apply gridlines to a matrix or tabular report

  1. In Report Builder design mode, select the cells to which you want to add gridlines.

  2. On the Format menu, select Border.

    The Format dialog box opens with the Border tab selected.

  3. Click Outline.

  4. Click OK.

To format borders and gridlines

  1. In Report Builder design mode, select the text box or cell(s) with the borders you want to format.

  2. On the Format menu, select Border.

    The Format dialog box opens with the Border tab selected.

  3. In the Style list, select a line style.

  4. In the Width list, select a line width.

  5. Select a line color.

  6. Click OK.

To format gridlines in a chart

  1. In Report Builder design mode, right-click the chart and then click Chart Options.

  2. In gridlines area of the X axis or Y axis tab, click the Format button.

    The Format dialog box opens with the Line tab selected.

  3. In the Style list, select a line style.

  4. In the Width list, select a line width.

  5. Select a line color.

  6. Click OK.
