Cube Wizard F1 Help (SSAS)

Use the Cube Wizard to create a cube for a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS) project in Business Intelligence Development Studio.

Depending on whether your cube is based on an existing data source, the Cube Wizard guides you through some or all of the following steps.

  • For a cube based on an existing data source:

    • Choose the method with which to build the cube.
    • Identify the data source for the cube.
    • Identify fact tables and dimension tables for the cube.
    • Select the dimensions to be included in the cube.
    • Select the measures to be included in the cube.
    • Create the dimension hierarchies for dimensions included in the cube.
    • Review the dimension structure.
    • Name and save the cube.
  • For a cube not based on an existing data source:

    • Choose the method with which to build the cube.
    • Define the new measures.
    • Select the shared dimensions to be included in the cube.
    • Define the new dimensions.
    • Define the time periods to include in the time dimension.
    • Specify additional calendars.
    • Set dimension usage with regards to measure groups.
    • Name and save the cube.

After you create a cube by using the Cube Wizard, you can use Cube Designer to edit its properties in Business Intelligence Development Studio. For more information about Cube Designer, see Cube Designer (SSAS).
