Data View (Report Designer)

The Data view in Report Designer is a query designer used for building datasets that retrieve metadata about a data source, which you use to design your report layout. When you create a new dataset, you choose the type of data source to use. Each dataset can only have one data source. Each data source is associated with one or two query designers that help you explore the underlying data on the data source and choose the data for your report.

The Data view shows, by default, the first dataset and its associated query designer. If no datasets have been defined, the following default view is displayed.

Default data pane with no datasets

The following table lists data source types and the associated query designer topics that define the panes, toolbars, and buttons for each query designer.
