Site usage reports can help you determine the effectiveness of your Web site. For example, usage statistics identify both frequently viewed content and content that is rarely accessed. This information can help you determine which content to retain on your site and which content to consider removing.

The usage reports rely on log data gathered from the Web sites and stored in the content databases. The log data is a summary record of transactions on the Web site. When you view a usage report in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, the data is arranged in a list format.

In addition to site usage statistics, you can also track how much storage space that your site is using and the level of activity that your site is generating. Office SharePoint Server 2007 gathers this information as part of the quota tracking for sites.
