While installing Office Communications Server, you might encounter the error shown in Figure 1 when starting your Standard Edition Server or Enterprise pool front-end server.
Figure 1. Deployment log showing Starting Service failure to start
This error occurs when running the Start Services Wizard, as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2. Start Services Wizard
If the log output from running the Start Services Wizard indicates that the Monitoring Agent Service failed to start, the problem is a missing feature that must be installed on the front-end server or Standard Edition Server. To resolve this error, install the Message Queuing feature on the front-end server or Standard Edition Server for which you are attempting to start the services.
Message Queuing can be installed from the Add Features Wizard in Server Manager, as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 3. The Add Features Wizard
After Message Queuing is installed, run the Start Services Wizard again and it should finish successfully. This will save you from potentially frustrating moments with the Start Services Wizard.
