DESCRIPTION

The Get-DnsServerVirtualizationInstance cmdlet gets the virtualization instances on the Domain Name System (DNS) server. If the Name parameter is provided then the cmdlet returns that virtualization instance.

EXAMPLES

Example 1: Display information about a virtualization instance

PS C:\> Get-DnsServerVirtualizationInstance -Name 8231 | fl *
Description : This virtualization instance hosts the zones for the Host tenant
FriendlyName           : HostTenantPartition
VirtualizationInstance : 8231
PSComputerName         :
CimClass               : root/Microsoft/Windows/DNS:DnsServerVirtualizationInstance
CimInstanceProperties  : {Description, FriendlyName, VirtualizationInstance}
CimSystemProperties    : Microsoft.Management.Infrastructure.CimSystemProperties

This command displays information about the virtualization instance named 8231.

Example 2: Show all virtualization instances on the DNS server

PS C:\> Get-DnsServerVirtualizationInstance | fl *
Description            :
FriendlyName           : Default
VirtualizationInstance : .
PSComputerName         :
CimClass               : root/Microsoft/Windows/DNS:DnsServerVirtualizationInstance
CimInstanceProperties  : {Description, FriendlyName, VirtualizationInstance}
CimSystemProperties    : Microsoft.Management.Infrastructure.CimSystemProperties

Description : This virtualization instance hosts the zones for the 'Host' tenant
FriendlyName           : RedTenantPartition

PSComputerName         :
CimClass               : root/Microsoft/Windows/DNS:DnsServerVirtualizationInstance
CimInstanceProperties  : {Description, FriendlyName, VirtualizationInstance}
CimSystemProperties    : Microsoft.Management.Infrastructure.CimSystemProperties
Description : This virtualization instance hosts the zones for tenant blue
FriendlyName           : TenantBluePartition
VirtualizationInstance : 9743
PSComputerName         :

CimInstanceProperties  : {Description, FriendlyName, VirtualizationInstance}
CimSystemProperties    : Microsoft.Management.Infrastructure.CimSystemProperties

This command shows the virtualization instances on the DNS server including the default virtualization instance represented by a period.

PARAMETERS

-AsJob

Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete.

The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt. You can continue to work in the session while the job completes. To manage the job, use the *-Job cmdlets. To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet.

For more information about Windows PowerShell background jobs, see about_Jobs.
